The basket's non-stick surface is what keeps food releasing and cleaning quick. Metal tongs, knives and scouring pads are what damage it. Liners and silicone baskets take the abuse instead, which meaningfully extends the life of the fryer itself.

Using liners correctly

• Never preheat with an empty liner in the basket. With nothing weighing it down, it can lift into the heating element.
• Put food on the liner first, then start the cycle.
• Do not cover the whole base — air has to circulate underneath, which is the entire cooking mechanism.

Can I use baking paper instead? Only weighted down by food, and never during preheat. Purpose-cut liners are perforated for airflow, which matters more than it sounds.

Are silicone baskets safe at air fryer temperatures? Food-grade silicone is rated well above normal air frying temperatures. Keep it clear of the element as you would anything else.

Do accessories affect cooking time? Slightly — anything that blocks airflow slows crisping. Leave gaps and do not overfill.
